Tokabay Village, Kazakhstan...?

For a school project, I have to design a working model of a device/machine that will harness a renewable energy source for a Tokabay Village, Kazakhstan. My device/machine will be designed to generate electricity or perform another task that is currently performed by a non-renewable energy source. Anyone got any ideas on what i could build? The village is lacking in water. Btw, this is similar to William Kamkwamba and what he did where he used a windmill to generate electricity. Sorry, I'm really dumb at this.
